Photo: Mother, Toddler, Motorcyclist All Die In Yesterday’s Festac Robbery

No fewer than forty heavily armed robbers, yesterday morning, invaded two second generation banks in 4th Avenue, Festac area of Lagos state and carted away huge sums of money.

According to Vanguard, during the operation which lasted hours, a two-year-old toddler, Mmesoma Ndirika, and her mother, Jane, who were inside their apartment in an adjoining building, were reportedly hit by stray bullets from the bandits who were shooting sporadically in all directions.

Reports said both mother and child later died as a result of injuries they sustained from the bullet.   A commercial motorcyclist who was also hit by stray bullets reportedly died later in an undisclosed private hospital.

Police authorities said they were able to recover about N27 million and other rounds of arms and ammunition abandoned by the bandits while fleeing from the scene. They could not give specific figure of casualties.

I Will Remain In Office Because No Tribunal Nullified My Election, Kashamu Speaks

Senator Buruji Kashamu, the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial district, has said he will remain in office because no tribunal nullified his election. Speaking through his media aide, Mr Austin Oniyokor, in a statement, the Senator explains in clear terms what actually went down at the tribunal and why he will remain in office. He also explained that his APC counterpart, Dapo Abiodun was woefully defeated at his ward and even his Local Government and wonders what justice he is looking for.

“Abiodun must be living in self delusion to have claimed  any victory because none was awarded to him. Clearly, God is not mocked. It should be noted that it took him over 72 hours to say anything after the tribunal gave its controversial verdict.

“In its judgment, the tribunal said; ‘We do not feel comfortable to nullify the election in Ogun East Senatorial District when 146,533 votes are valid because of 37,008 unlawful votes. We nullify the election into the Senatorial seat in the following polling units and order a fresh election.’’ Continue...

“The implication is that Senator Kashamu is still leading Abiodun with 5,179 votes. So, how can someone trailing  with over 5,000 votes be claiming victory? How can someone who was defeated by Senator Kashamu in his polling booth, ward and local government be claiming victory? It does seem to us that he wants to get through the back door what he could not get in a free and fair contest.

“It is also very important to reiterate that the rerun was ordered in 110 out of over 1,135 polling units in the senatorial district. That is less than 10 percent of the polling units in the senatorial district.

“Another reason we believe the tribunal’s verdict was a travesty of justice is: there is nowhere in the Electoral Act where an Election Tribunal is empowered to make order on a partial rerun of an election.

“So, for information, Senator Kashamu will remain in office. His certificate of return is still with him. It has not been withdrawn because there is no such consequential order,’’ part of the statement said.

Fayose’s Wife Counsels Women On Family Planning

Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Mrs Feyisetan Fayose has advised women in active reproductive age range to limit the number of children they have in line with their economic wherewithal.

Mrs Fayose said this at the state Specialist Hospital, Ikole Ekiti, during the payment of medical bills for some indigent patients.

Apparently worried by the huge number of women who had just delivered new babies but could not afford to pay their medical bills in the hospital, Mrs Fayose said women must take precautionary measures by way of regulating the number of children they could conveniently take care of so that would not have any negative effect in their lives.

“Let me use this opportunity to call on our medical personnel including doctors and nurses to educate our women on how  to key  into family planning medical process”The moment you are having three to four children, you should apply a break,so that you too can enjoy your life.

“God forbid that any adverse thing happens, who is going to take care of your children,’’ she said.

The first lady therefore called on women in the state to be mindful of their health and the harsh economic reality in the country.

T.I apologizes after saying he won't vote for a female president because women are too emotional

In a recent interview rapper T.I. said he would never vote for a woman President because women are too emotional. He told DJ Whoo Kid
“Not to be sexist but, I can’t vote for the leader of the free world to be a woman. Just because, every other position that exists, I think a woman could do well. But the president? It’s kinda like, I just know that women make rash decisions emotionally – they make very permanent, cemented decisions – and then later, it’s kind of like it didn’t happen, or they didn’t mean for it to happen. And I sure would hate to just set off a nuke. [Other leaders] will not be able to negotiate the right kinds of foreign policy; the world ain’t ready yet. I think you might be able to the Lochness Monster elected before you could get a woman.”
After he was seriously bashed, he backtracked and apologized. What he tweeted after the cut..
